Editing an Issued Credential

Issuing digital credentials is a crucial process that reflects your organization’s professionalism and attention to detail. However, even the most diligent workflows may result in small errors; a misspelled name, an incorrect expiry date, or a forgotten detail. That’s where Wauld’s Edit & Reissue feature comes in.
This feature empowers admins to make corrections or updates to an already-issued credential without compromising audit trails or recipient trust. It ensures the right information reaches the right person; clearly, securely, and professionally.
Before starting this article, we recommend first understanding the Credential Details View by visiting: Viewing Credential Details .
Why Edit a Credential?
You may need to edit a credential in the following scenarios:
Correcting spelling errors in recipient names or fields like course titles
Changing the expiry configuration (e.g., from “never expires” to “expires in 1 year”)
Updating data that was missing or inaccurate at the time of issuance (e.g., grades, custom attributes)
Instead of voiding and reissuing from scratch, editing a credential in Wauld streamlines your process while maintaining full transparency and accountability.
How to Edit a Credential
Here’s how to edit a credential from the Admin Portal:
Go to the "Recipients" section from the left-hand navigation bar.
In the Recipient List View, click on the recipient whose credentials you want to review.
This opens the Recipient Details View, where you'll see a list of all credentials issued to that recipient within the current workspace.
Click on the credential you want to explore.
This opens the Credential Details Modal, displaying complete information and available actions.
In the modal, locate and click the “Edit Credential” button.
You’ll be taken to the Edit Credential Screen, where you can make updates.
What Can You Edit?
In the Edit Credential screen, you can:
Modify any attribute used when the credential was issued (e.g., name, engagement, course, achievement)
Change the expiry setting using flexible options:
Never expires
Expires after a set duration
Expires on a specific date
You cannot edit the recipient’s email address, as credentials are identity-bound and linked to the email at issuance.
Live Credential Preview
As you make changes, the live preview on the right side of the screen updates instantly to reflect your edits. This real-time visual feedback helps ensure everything appears exactly how you intend; from data to design.
Notify Recipient (Optional)
Before finalizing, you can check the option: “Email recipient to notify about the edit.”
If checked:
The recipient will receive a new email notification with a link to the updated credential.
If unchecked:
The update happens silently; the credential is still reissued, but without recipient notification.
Confirmation Before Reissuing
Once you've reviewed your changes:
Click “Reissue Credential.”
A confirmation modal appears, then click “Yes, Reissue Credential” to proceed.
Or click Cancel to discard your changes.
What Happens After Editing?
For Admins:
The old credential is automatically voided, and marked as such in the system.
The credential audit log of the old credential records the reissue and links to the new credential.
You can always trace which credential superseded the voided one from the credential audit log.
For Recipients and Third Parties:
If a recipient or third party opens the link to the old (voided) credential:
They'll see a “Voided” banner.
A message will state: “This credential has been voided. The updated version of this credential can be accessed here”
A link to the new credential is embedded in the word “here” within the banner, allowing seamless redirection.
This ensures continued trust and clarity for all parties involved; from recipients to employers and verifiers
Limitations After Reissue
Once a credential is edited and reissued:
The old credential becomes inaccessible and cannot be used or verified.
Admins can no longer edit or resend the old version.
Recipients cannot raise change requests on a voided version.
Download action is disabled for the voided version.
