Creating & Editing Credential Templates

Credential templates are the foundation of every certificate or badge you design in Wauld. They allow you to standardize layouts, apply consistent branding, and save time when issuing large numbers of credentials. Whether you want to use one of Wauld’s professionally designed templates or build your own from scratch, the system gives you flexibility to design credentials that reflect your brand and purpose.

Understanding Templates

A credential template is a pre-designed layout for your certificates or badges. Templates can include:

  • Backgrounds (colors, images, or uploaded designs)

  • Placeholder attributes (such as recipient name, course name, or issue date)

  • Signatures and logos

  • QR codes for verification or custom links

Using templates ensures consistency across engagements, reduces design time, and provides a professional appearance for all credentials you issue.

You can either:

  1. Select from Wauld’s Template Library – categorized, ready-to-use designs.

  2. Create a Custom Template – start with a blank canvas and design every detail yourself.

Selecting a Template from the Library

When you create a new document in Wauld, you’ll be asked to fill in basic details in the Create Document form (such as name, type, and issuing engagement). After completing the form:

  1. On the right half of the screen, click Search Templates.

  2. The Template Library will open, showcasing designs categorized by use case (academic certificates, corporate badges, compliance credentials, etc.).

  3. Browse or search the categories to find a template that matches your purpose.

  4. Select the template you want, then click Confirm.

  5. If you change your mind, you can cancel and return to the Create Document form to choose a different option.

  6. The system will launch the Design Studio with the chosen template.

From here, you can:

  • Replace placeholder attributes with your own.

  • Swap logos, signatures, and images.

  • Customize fonts, colors, and text formatting.

  • Make the design fully yours while still benefiting from the structure of the Wauld template.

Creating a Custom Template

If you prefer to build your credential design from scratch, you can start with a blank canvas. This option sits directly below the Search Templates button.

For Badges

  • One default option is available: Blank Canvas with Transparent Background.

For Certificates

You can choose from multiple blank canvas sizes:

  • A5 (Portrait)

  • A5 (Landscape)

  • US Letter (Portrait)

  • US Letter (Landscape)

  • A4 (Portrait)

  • A4 (Landscape)

Custom Canvas Size

If none of the preset options meet your needs:

  1. Click the Custom button.

  2. A Custom Size modal will appear.

  3. Enter your desired dimensions (between 135 mm and 420 mm) for both width and height.

  4. Click Start Designing to open the Design Studio with your chosen custom size.

Next Steps in Designing

Once your template (library-based or custom) is loaded into the Design Studio, you are ready to begin designing your credential.

Typical first steps include:

  • Adding a background (image or solid color).

  • Uploading your organization’s branding (logos, seals, etc.).

  • Inserting attributes like {{Recipient Name}} or {{Course Name}}.

  • Placing signatures and verification QR codes.
